Find care / Your starting point

Begin by naming the health concern you want to discuss.

Start with your concern, whether the visit is in a room or on a screen. Ask how the health professional will check your health problem.

Picture the moment

You are curious about a treatment, but you also want someone to listen to what has been happening. Begin there.

Put your concern into plain words

Write down what feels wrong, when it began and what you hope will change. List what has already been tried. Take along a list naming the medicines and supplements you use.

Use your own words. A short note is enough: what bothers you, what makes it harder and what you want to ask about.

Choose a way to have the conversation

A visit in a room
Look for a licensed medical practice that will discuss the concern you bring. Ask what happens at the first visit before agreeing to pay.
A visit from home
Telehealth brings care to you through video calls, phone calls or online messages. Ask who will assess you, how to ask follow-up questions and what happens if a screen is not enough.

For an online visit, licence rules depend on the patient’s state, under US guidance checked September 26, 2026. A

To practise in that state, the doctor must hold a licence or another form of permission; each state sets its own details.

Say where you will be during the visit, including if you are travelling. Ask the service to explain which permission covers that location.

Expect an assessment, not just a menu

The Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB) is the group that brings state medical boards together.

The FSMB’s guidance, reviewed in September 2026, calls for online visits to meet the care standards expected for visits in person. B

As of September 26, 2026, FSMB guidance rejects care that relies only on a fixed online form unable to gather enough information. B

A form can begin the conversation. Ask whether a health professional will read it and come back with questions. Also ask how you can raise your own questions.

FSMB guidance says a health professional must set up needed tests or an assessment in person, or refer the patient for them. B

Leave with an explanation of the plan

Ask which options fit the problem you brought. Ask why an option is being offered and how the health professional would tell whether it helped. Ask what follow-up would look like.

If BPC-157 is offered to you, ask what is in the medicine and whether it has approval from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
